Announcing The Professor
Welcome to The Professor. A Newsletter for an audience seeking deeper engagement with democracy and the environment without the rage and clickbait.
Who is this for?
Anyone interested in deeply engaging, thoughtful, and purposeful commentary on the challenges and triumphs of democracy and environmentalism today. Written from the perspective of a university professor.
What will you read?
The newsletter publishes three styles of articles each on the themes of democracy and environment:
- Essays - Longer works, these explore the themes of the newsletter in depth. For example, discussing Manic Kleptocracy and Populism or a gravel road reveals the violence on nature and humanity surrounding it.
- Responses - New content derived from ideas or thoughts encountered in other works. These responses follow their work, offer new perspectives, or builds upon it. For instance, responding to Te-Nehisi Coates' sentence, "But their Redemption is not about honoring a past. It's about killing a future."
- Vernacular - Taking interesting academic and policy works and exploring them through more approachable language. Like my recent work on Radical Hope. Or, take Disaster Capitalism and the works of Naomi Klein. I describe it to my students as profiting off of a hurricane, or finding ways to redevelop a forest that was not accessible until it burned down.
